We get explained through the first song of the episode, “BBBFF (Big Brother Best Friend Forever)”, that Shining Armor (a ponified version of Prince Eric and Matthew Broderick) and Twilight used to spend so much time with each other such as flying a kite and not having a single fight at all (sudden foreshadowing) and they still miss each other to this day. Twilight is very disappointed that Shining never told her about the marriage and begins acting up.
